Hey, Mama!
Let’s keep it real for a minute. How often do you find yourself thinking, “Who am I to chase my dreams?” You’re juggling kids, running the household, and maybe even hustling on the side, yet that nagging feeling of not being enough creeps in. Welcome to the world of imposter syndrome.
You might be saying, “I’ve spent years focused on my kids and home—how can I possibly be qualified for anything more?” Trust me, I’ve been there, too. It can feel heavy, like you’re just pretending to have it all together while worrying you’ll be “found out.”
What’s Imposter Syndrome All About?
Imposter syndrome is that voice telling you your wins are just luck or timing, that you’re not really deserving of your successes. As moms, this can hit hard. After dedicating so much time and energy to raising our families, the idea of stepping out to pursue our own passions can feel super daunting.
But here’s the real talk: God has put unique gifts in you, and they matter! Just because your focus has been on your family doesn’t mean you have to give up on your dreams. The skills you’ve mastered as a mom, like multitasking, nurturing, and problem-solving might just be the very things that’ll help you shine in your calling!
Remember Who You Are in Christ
When self-doubt kicks in, let’s remind ourselves of who we are. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…” You’re chosen, valuable, and equipped for a purpose!
God isn’t measuring your worth by your laundry pile or the chaos of everyday life. He sees your heart, your potential, and the incredible woman He created you to be.
How to Fight Imposter Syndrome
Own Your Feelings: It’s okay to feel this way. A lot of us do! Acknowledging it can be the first step to moving past it.
Pray and Reflect: Take some time to pray. Ask God to show you your strengths and help you see yourself through His eyes. Reflect on your victories, big or small, and thank Him for those moments.
Set Small Goals: Don’t try to leap into your calling all at once. Break it down into manageable steps. Whether it’s taking a class, volunteering, or just carving out time to explore what you love, take it one step at a time.
Find Your Tribe: Surround yourself with a community of women who lift you up. This could be a church group, a book club, or even a crew online. Sharing your journey can remind you that you’re not in this alone.
Celebrate Your Journey: Remember, every mom’s path is unique. Celebrate your story and trust that God has a plan for you. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
You Are Enough!
Mama, don’t let imposter syndrome hold you back from chasing your calling. Your experiences as a mother have made you strong and capable. Embrace your journey, lean into your faith, and know that you are more than enough to pursue your dreams and God's calling on your life.
